The Under Water Viewing Room of Chitose River.

The Under Water Observation Room is located on the Chitose River approximately 30 kilometers downstream from Lake Shikotsu and 70 kilometers upstream from the mouth of the Ishikari. The Observation room utilizes a small section of the re-inforced concrete enbankment and is comprised of seven acrilic windows which are 1 meter high, 2 meters wide and 8.5 centimeters thick. In total the windows span about 30 meters of the river bank. In the picture to the right you can see the steel plating on the surface which indicates the windows below.

The Observation Room allows for a natural experience, there are no fences in the river keeping the fish captive nor are the fish fed to entice them to the area. Only in Winter do we illuminate the area providing better viewing. In this way you are being provided with a natural experience on the river with it's inhabitants.
