The Fish Wheel

The fish Wheel is a device used to capture adult returning Salmon. The fish wheel essentially scoops the fish from the river and relocates them live into a holding container. Later a crew will come and utilise these fish for the collection of eggs and milt. The eggs and milt are combined together for the production of salmon fry. Each year the fish wheel collects about 300, 000 salmon from the river. The operation of the Fish Wheel is seasonal, usually it is in use from Late August to the early of December. Outside of this time frame it is removed from the river.
Visitors are always welcome to come down and see it in operation
