Welcome to Chitose Salmon Aquarium! Come and explore the fascinating
life cycle of Salmon and other Fresh-Water Fishes all year round.

Whole view of Chitose Salmon Aquarium
Chitose Salmon Aquarium is located on the Chitose River in Hokkaido Japan. This river originates from the beautiful waters of Lake Shikotsu in central Hokkaido then joins Hokkaido's largest river the Ishikari, which in turn flows into the Sea of Japan.

There is much to see and do at the Aquarium, besides the large life-like aquariums inside the facility there is an education room featuring large screened moniters that explain the wondrous ecology of Salmon. While you are here don't miss the underwater viewing opportunity of the Chitose River.

Another attraction worth mentioning is the "Fish Wheel". Installed for the months of August to November (Japan's Fall) when the salmon are returning to spawn, the Fish Wheel is used to collect Salmon. Later, the salmon are artificially spawned, and the fry reared at a hatchery. They are then released back into the wild the following year where they head out to sea. You are welcome to come down and see the water wheel at anytime but for best viewing please come in the Fall when the Salmon are returning.

Below please find a floor plan of the facility and an out an outline of the attractions
